Overview

Dubai public parking uses zone-specific signs and variable pricing. Most familiar paid zones run 8am to 10pm Monday to Saturday, but special and 24-hour zones exist. Peak hours are 8am to 10am and 4pm to 8pm, and premium P-coded spaces cost more during those windows.

What matters

The nearest sign overrides a general rule. Confirm the full code, including any P suffix, the plate details, maximum stay and event notice. A paid session does not permit parking in a restricted bay, and Sunday or overnight free parking is not universal.

Practical checklist

  • 01
    Photograph the sign

Capture the zone code, operating hours, maximum stay and any event notice.

  • 02
    Check the P suffix

Distinguish standard A, B, C or D from premium AP, BP, CP or DP.

  • 03
    Enter the exact plate

Verify emirate, plate category and number before paying.

  • 04
    Wait for confirmation

Do not assume an app or message payment succeeded until it is confirmed.

  • 05
    Set an expiry reminder

Extend before expiry only where the zone's maximum duration permits it.

  • 06
    Recheck event rules

Use Parkin's live information when visiting a major venue or event district.

Our method

We reviewed Parkin's current variable-tariff explanation, zone-by-zone tables, payment guidance and FAQ. We used posted inclusive table values where available, distinguished premium from standard spaces and treated signage as authoritative for special or 24-hour areas.

How Dubai public parking works in 2026

Dubai's public parking is managed through zone codes, posted operating hours and a variable tariff system. The sign beside the space is the most important source: it identifies the zone, charging period, maximum stay and payment instructions. Do not rely on the colour of the kerb or a rate remembered from another district.

Parkin introduced full premium and peak-hour pricing on 4 April 2025. Premium spaces add the letter P to familiar codes, including AP, BP, CP and DP. Standard A, B, C and D zones still exist, but their duration rules and rates differ. Special areas such as JLT, Dubai Media City, Al Kifaf and the Trade Centre have their own codes and tables.

Peak and off-peak parking hours

Parkin defines peak hours as 8am to 10am and 4pm to 8pm. Off-peak hours are 10am to 4pm and 8pm to 10pm. Many public zones charge Monday to Saturday from 8am to 10pm, with overnight parking free and regular Sunday and public-holiday parking free.

That pattern is not universal. Some zones operate 24 hours, event areas can switch to special tariffs, and privately managed car parks follow their own rules. Always read the nearest sign and check the Parkin app before assuming a Sunday or overnight stay is free.

Standard versus premium rates

Parkin's published tables show the effect of the P suffix. In premium roadside Zone AP, one hour is listed at AED 4.20 off-peak and AED 6.30 at peak. Standard roadside Zone A lists AED 4.20 for one hour in both periods. Premium plot Zone BP lists AED 3.15 off-peak and AED 6.30 at peak, while standard B lists AED 3.15 off-peak and AED 4.20 at peak.

Premium CP and DP spaces can also reach AED 6.30 for the first peak hour, while the corresponding standard C and D first-hour peak rate is AED 4.20. These figures include the values displayed in Parkin's current zone tables. Use the zone-specific table for longer stays because pricing is not always a simple hourly multiple.

How to identify the right zone

Read the full code on the parking sign or payment machine. A single missing letter changes the tariff: A and AP are not interchangeable. Confirm the number plate format, emirate and category before paying. For a rental or company vehicle, copy the details from the registration rather than typing from memory.

Keep the payment confirmation. If no confirmation arrives, check the app or message status before leaving the vehicle. A payment sent for the wrong zone or plate may not protect the actual vehicle from a fine.

Paying by app, SMS or WhatsApp

Parkin lists its own app as well as partner apps including RTA Dubai and Dubai Now. App payment avoids the additional SMS charge and makes the active session easier to review. Parkin also supports SMS and WhatsApp payment through 7275. Its current information states that an SMS payment deducts an additional 30 fils, while WhatsApp and smart-app payment do not add that fee.

For message payment, follow the exact plate, zone and duration format shown by Parkin. Wait for the confirmation message. The reminder can be used to extend a session where the zone and maximum-stay rule permit it. Extending after expiry does not erase a gap, and extending beyond the signed limit is not valid.

Event parking and special zones

Event-specific tariffs began on 17 February 2025. Around major exhibitions, concerts, conferences and festivals, temporary event hours and higher rates can apply. The Trade Centre X-zone table, for example, publishes an event rate that is much higher than its normal rate. Signage and the Parkin app should show the active rule.

If attending a major event, compare public transport with the complete parking cost and exit delay. A space that looks convenient can become expensive once an event tariff begins.

Avoiding common parking fines

Pay immediately after parking, enter the correct plate and zone, and set a reminder before expiry. Stay within bay markings and do not block an access point, loading area, fire route or People of Determination space without the required permit. A paid session does not legalise parking in a restricted space.

Take a photograph of the sign when a rule is unusual, especially in an event area. If you receive a fine, use the official channel shown on the notice and preserve the payment confirmation, sign photograph and location. Rates and classifications can change, so recheck Parkin rather than saving an old tariff screenshot indefinitely.

Frequently asked questions
