Overview

The Gold Line is an approved 42-kilometre, 18-station underground Metro line planned to open on 9 September 2032. It will connect Al Ghubaiba with Jumeirah Golf Estates through Mina Rashid, City Walk, Business Bay, Meydan, Al Barsha South and JVC, with transfers to the Red Line, Green Line and planned Etihad Rail passenger services.

What matters

The broad route and key interchange stations are confirmed, but a complete official list of all 18 station names, entrances and parcel-level locations is not yet public. Residents and property buyers should not treat unofficial maps or sales claims as final. The 2032 date is a project target and detailed neighbourhood construction schedules will come later.

Practical checklist

  • 01
    Confirm the source

Use RTA, Dubai Government or WAM announcements for route and construction claims.

  • 02
    Separate corridor from station

A community on the route is not proof that every property will be close to an entrance.

  • 03
    Wait for final station maps

Do not calculate walking distance until official station and entrance locations are published.

  • 04
    Check the relevant interchange

Identify whether a future journey needs the Red Line, Green Line or Etihad Rail connection.

  • 05
    Compare independent timelines

Property handover dates and the Metro opening target are managed separately.

  • 06
    Monitor construction notices

Follow official diversion and access updates once work begins near a home or business.

  • 07
    Allow for transfers

A connected network does not always mean a direct train or a short interchange.

  • 08
    Recheck the opening target

Confirm the latest official schedule before making a time-sensitive decision.

Our method

Time Out Dubai was used only to identify current public interest in the Gold Line. We checked Archive 971’s published and draft library and found a general Dubai Metro guide but no dedicated Gold Line project guide. On 16 September 2026, we independently checked the April approval announcement from Emirates News Agency and Dubai Media Office, plus the August WAM transport update. We separated confirmed project facts from projections and did not turn corridor names into an invented 18-station list. The featured image page identifies Business Bay station in Dubai, credits Tim Wu, records embedded coordinates of 25.191286, 55.260675 and confirms the CC BY-SA 4.0 licence.

Dubai Metro Gold Line: confirmed facts at a glance

Dubai’s approved Gold Line is a planned 42-kilometre, fully underground Metro route with 18 stations. The project has a stated budget of AED 34 billion and is scheduled to open on 9 September 2032.

The line is designed to run from Al Ghubaiba through Mina Rashid, City Walk, Business Bay, Mohammed Bin Rashid City, Nad Al Sheba, Mohammed Bin Rashid Gardens, Meydan, Al Barsha South and Jumeirah Village Circle before ending at Jumeirah Golf Estates.

Three Metro interchanges are officially confirmed: Al Ghubaiba for the Green Line, plus Business Bay and Jumeirah Golf Estates for the Red Line. Meydan and Jumeirah Golf Estates are also planned as connections with Etihad Rail passenger services.

| Project detail | Officially announced position |
| --- | --- |
| Length | 42 kilometres |
| Stations | 18 |
| Alignment | Fully underground |
| Budget | AED 34 billion |
| Planned opening | 9 September 2032 |
| Metro interchanges | Al Ghubaiba, Business Bay and Jumeirah Golf Estates |
| Etihad Rail connections | Meydan and Jumeirah Golf Estates |
| Procurement | Tender planned in 2026; contract award planned in 2027 |

These are project-level commitments announced in April 2026. They are not a complete station directory, construction timetable for every neighbourhood or guarantee about a specific building’s walking distance to an entrance.

Where the Gold Line is planned to run

The western end starts at Al Ghubaiba, an established transport hub in Bur Dubai. The approved corridor then serves Mina Rashid and moves inland through City Walk and Business Bay. From there it continues through major growth areas including Mohammed Bin Rashid City, Nad Al Sheba, Mohammed Bin Rashid Gardens and Meydan.

The route then extends towards Al Barsha South and Jumeirah Village Circle, ending at Jumeirah Golf Estates. This cross-city alignment is important because it is not simply an extension of the existing Red or Green lines. It creates a new east–west connection across established districts and large development areas that currently rely heavily on road transport.

Official announcements say the line will serve 15 strategic locations and 55 development areas, with a catchment of about 1.5 million residents. That does not mean each named community will have its own station, nor that all 18 final station names have been published.

Are all 18 station locations confirmed?

The total of 18 stations is confirmed, as are the broad corridor and the interchange locations. However, the authorities have not yet published a final public list of 18 station names, exact entrances or parcel-level coordinates.

That distinction matters for residents, tenants and property buyers. A news graphic or a property advertisement may describe a community as being “on the Gold Line,” but the practical benefit depends on the final station site, entrance placement, pedestrian access and feeder transport.

Treat Al Ghubaiba, Business Bay, Jumeirah Golf Estates and the stated route districts as confirmed at corridor level. Wait for Roads and Transport Authority maps, tender documents or construction notices before relying on a precise station pin.

Confirmed interchanges

Al Ghubaiba and the Green Line

Al Ghubaiba is the planned western terminus and Green Line interchange. This should give Gold Line passengers access to the historic core of Dubai and onward Green Line stations without first travelling to the Red Line.

Business Bay and the Red Line

Business Bay is one of two planned Red Line interchanges. It places the Gold Line close to a major employment and residential district and provides a transfer point for trips towards Downtown Dubai, Dubai International Financial Centre, Dubai Internet City and other Red Line destinations.

Jumeirah Golf Estates and the Red Line

Jumeirah Golf Estates is the other planned Red Line interchange and the eastern end of the Gold Line. Its existing Red Line station already serves the Route 2020 branch. The new connection should allow passengers from JVC, Al Barsha South and other Gold Line districts to change for Expo City Dubai or the central Red Line corridor.

Meydan and Jumeirah Golf Estates with Etihad Rail

Official plans identify Meydan and Jumeirah Golf Estates as connections with the Etihad Rail passenger network. Operational details, interchange walking routes and coordinated timetables have not yet been released. These should be treated as planned network connections rather than a promise of a specific transfer time.

Opening date and construction timeline

The official target is 9 September 2032. The date continues Dubai Metro’s use of 9 September milestones: the original network opened on 9 September 2009.

The announced procurement sequence calls for the project tender in 2026 and contract award in 2027, followed by construction. A project of this scale will move through design development, utility relocation, excavation, station construction, systems installation, testing and safety certification before passenger service begins.

Residents should distinguish between the target opening date and neighbourhood construction dates. Work may begin or affect individual roads years earlier, while a visible station structure does not mean passenger service is imminent. RTA notices and Dubai Government announcements remain the authoritative sources for traffic diversions and milestones.

What the project is intended to change

The Gold Line is intended to add capacity and create alternative cross-city journeys. Official projections say it could carry about 465,000 passengers a day beyond 2040, remove around 40 million road journeys annually and reduce crowding on the Red Line section between BurJuman and ONPASSIVE by 23 percent.

The announced economic assessment estimates a cumulative return of 430 percent over 20 years. These are forward-looking project estimates, not observed results. Actual ridership, road impact and journey times will depend on the final service plan, station access, development patterns and how passengers use the network after opening.

For a future passenger, the more immediate benefit is likely to be choice: direct Metro access for districts without it today, transfers between three rail networks and fewer trips that require travelling into central Red Line stations before changing direction.

UAE-specific considerations for residents and property decisions

Do not make a tenancy or purchase decision solely from a claim that a home is “near the future Metro.” Ask for the source of the claimed station location and measure distance only after an official entrance is published. A station box can be large, and the nearest entrance may be on the other side of a major road or development.

For off-plan property, compare the developer’s handover date with the Gold Line’s 2032 target independently. The two schedules are controlled by different parties. Neither an early handover nor a Metro announcement guarantees that both will be available together.

Owners and tenants in corridor areas should expect construction information to become more specific after tender award. Watch for official diversion notices, access changes and utility works rather than relying on social-media maps. Businesses should review delivery access and customer routes when local works are formally announced.

Practical Gold Line checklist

Start with the April 2026 approval announcement and record only the confirmed corridor, interchange and opening target. Check RTA and Dubai Government channels for later design or construction updates.

If evaluating a property, ask the agent or developer for the official source behind any station claim. Do not use an unofficial map as proof of walking distance. Recheck the proposed location when a station name, coordinates and entrance plan are formally released.

For future trip planning, separate interchange availability from direct service. A connection at Business Bay, Al Ghubaiba or Jumeirah Golf Estates may still require a transfer and waiting time. Etihad Rail connections will also depend on the passenger timetable and station design.

If construction begins near your home or workplace, follow the current RTA diversion notice, allow extra road time and check access arrangements for parking, deliveries and people of determination.

Bottom line

The Dubai Metro Gold Line is an approved AED 34 billion project, not a speculative proposal. Its 42-kilometre underground route, 18-station total, broad corridor, three Metro interchanges and 9 September 2032 opening target are officially announced.

The useful caution is equally clear: authorities have not published a complete final list of all 18 station names and entrances. Residents can plan around the confirmed corridor and transfer points, but should wait for detailed RTA maps before making precise walking-distance or property-value assumptions.
